Mission Possible! College Access Program (MP)

In grade 9, students in Sociedad Latina's Leadership Pipeline enter the Mission Possible! College Access Program, where they receive academic support, test preparation, and guidance through the college application and financial aid processes. As with all of our programs, case management and parent engagement are key tools used by staff to create a support network for each student that will enable them to be successful. MP youth also are connected to training and employment opportunities through Sociedad Latina's Workforce Development Programs. MP Alumni in college or a career receive two years of follow up services through Mission Possible! as well as opportunities to mentor high school students in the program.

"Sociedad Latina helped me in my educational level because they had after school programs where we did our homework and learned about scholarship opportunities. This was important to me being a senior in high school because I was months away from entering college. With all the preparations I received I was able to attend college while also being blessed with a full scholarship opportunity. This experience showed me that anyone can make it if only they work hard at it. The staff at Sociedad Latina showed me how to do this, encouraged me through the hard times and helped me get to where I am today."

95% of the youth we serve are the first in their families to attend college.Through Mission Possible's College Access Network, made up of 13 higher education partners, youth are linked to the colleges and universities in their own backyard. Students work one-on-one with College Coaches from our partner schools to stay on track for graduation, research colleges of interest and create "Pathways to College" Portfolios with workplans and timelines of acceptance requirements and application procedures. Staff and College Coaches also work with parents, many of whom have not attended college, to familiarize them with the processes and educate them on what to expect from the college experience, as well as ways they can support their children.

For three years in a row, 100% of high school seniors enrolled in the Mission Possible! College Access Program have graduated from high school and enrolled in a four-year college degree program. Mission Possible! Alumni are currently attending Boston College, Boston University, Salem State University, Union College, University of Massachusetts, Northeastern University, Wentworth Institute of Technology and many more. The majority of Mission Possible Alumni have also received substantial scholarships and financial aid packages.

Mission Possible! is open to the community and meets Monday-Thursday. For more information or to enroll, contact Katie Magyar at 617-442-4299 x141 or katie@sociedadlatina.org.
